Verrucomicrobium spinosum is a prosthecate Bacteria that belongs to a new division of bacteria called Verrucomicobia. It is found in aquatic and soil habitats and in the gastrointestinal tract of humans. They comprise up to 3% of the microbiota of soil. Prosthecate bacteria have appendages called prosthecae.
