Italian 12.8 in battleship Andrea Doria arriving to surrender at Malta in September 1943: she originated as a WW1 dreadnought but was completely updated in the 1930s. The Italians were permitted to keep her after WW2 (unlike the surviving pair of the modern Littorio class), and she served on as a training unit till the early 1950s.

Italian battleship Andrea Doria was the lead ship of her class of battleships built by the Royal Italian Navy (Regia Marina) during the early 1910's. The class included only one sister ship, Caio Duilio. The two ships, Andrea Doria and Caio Duilio were completed during World War I. The class was an incremental improvement over the preceding Conte di Cavour class. Like the earlier ships, Andrea Doria and Caio Duilio were armed with a main battery of thirteen 305-millimeter (12.0 in) guns.
