Hawker Typhoon var ett brittiskt jakt/attackflygplan som användes under senare delen av andra världskriget.  Hawker Typhoon var ett flygplan konstruerat under mitten av andra världskriget av tillverkaren Hawker som tidigare skapat Hawker Hurricane. Hawker Typhoon var i grunden ett jaktplan bestyckat med tolv 7,7 mm kulsprutor i vingarna.

In August 1942 Lancaster I R5727 became the first of its type to fly the Atlantic, having been chosen as the pattern machine for production of the Lancaster in Canada. It is seen here at Prestwick airport before the flight. [IWM]

44 Sqn. Lancaster KM-o based in Waddington, Lincolnshire being touched up by a rigger. Until June 1942 these codes had been light grey, but were changed to dull red because it was  less conspicuous in moonlight.. The bar above the ‘o’ indicated the second ‘O-Orange’ in the squadron. This aircraft (R 5540) was written off in a crash-landing at Winthorpe in Jan. 1943.
