Shigeo Gochō, from “Self and Others,” 1977. Gocho published three photo compilations in his career—“Days,” “Self and Others,” and “Familiar Street Scenes”—consisting of scenes of everyday life and portraiture. His second book consisted of portraits shot at a distance, often featuring paired subjects who gaze directly into the camera.
(4) GUNTER HAESE, KALOGO 1999. It was difficult to choose one sculpture, especially after I learned they were kinetic. I like this one because of the 2 cubes being slightly off balanced and the tension that creates. The indexing of shapes reminds me of something atomic, and that relationship deepens when I see them move.
