08.14.2012: Curiosity in Exaggerated Color This color-enhanced view of NASA's Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars was taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter as the satellite flew overhead. Colors have been enhanced to show the subtle color variations near the rover, which result from different types of materials. The descent stage blast pattern around the rover is clearly seen as relatively blue colors.

This raw image of a broken rock fragment in a rover wheel track, was taken by Curiosity's Mast Camera (Mastcam) on Jan. 17, 2013. When Curiosity drove over Tintina, the rock broke apart and exposed a fresh, bright white surface. The size of the rock is roughly 1.2 inches by 1.6 inches (3 centimeters by 4 centimeters).

This view shows the patch of veined, flat-lying rock selected as the first drilling site for NASA's Mars rover Curiosity.

NASA - Mars... Not exactly the red planet hunh! Lengthy detective work with data NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit collected in late 2005 has confirmed that an outcrop called "Comanche" contains a mineral indicating that a past environment was wet and non-acidic, possibly favorable to life.
