*EGYPT~Front view of an ointment of Siamun.Photo taken from Tutankhamun catalog.Although the objects linked to the world of cosmetics were used in the everyday level, some of them also show highly symbolic iconographic content +is likely to have a ritual use votive well. And the truth is that the ointment maker of Siamun shows some elements that could perhaps give a reading of transcendent character. It is,above all,the image of calves, three in the bottom of the jug and one on top of the lid.

A luminescent lotus blossom forms the bowl of this precious alabaster chalice from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, who ruled Egypt from about 1334 B.C. to 1325 B.C. Tutankhamun’s name appears in the framed inscription at center. The inscription running along the cup’s rim inspired its discoverers to call it the “wishing cup”: “ … May you spend millions of years, you who love Thebes, sitting with your face to the north wind, your two eyes beholding happiness.”

Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten) was a Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt who ruled for 17 years and died perhaps in 1336 BC or 1334 BC. He is especially noted for abandoning traditional Egyptian polytheism and introducing worship centered on the Aten, which is sometimes described as monotheistic or henotheistic. An early inscription likens the Aten to the sun as compared to stars, and later official language avoids calling the Aten a god, giving the solar deity a status above mere gods.

Amenhotep IV-better known as Akhenaten, the new name he took early on in his reign-ushered in a revolutionary period in Egyptian history.
