The diptych of Symmachi and Nicomachi is a carved ivory diptych perhaps dating back to 388/401 CE. Today, the two halves of the diptych, 29 cm high, are divided between the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Musée de Cluny in Paris. Done in Rome or Milan by skilled master craftsmen, the diptych celebrating the marriage between members of these two influential pagan Roman senatorial families.
