WWI: Manfred von Richthofen – the Red Baron, was a German fighter pilot with the Imperial German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) during World War I. He is considered the top ace of that war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories.

Baron von Richthofen shot down over 80 Allied planes before being shot down over Allied territory by a Canadian pilot. He was buried by his enemies with full military honors. The medal he is wearing is the Blue Max, Germany's highest military honor.
