Sham…had he born in any other year he would have been a Triple Crown winner. Unfortunately he ran against Secretariat. Most people don’t know however that in 1973 both Sham and Secretariat broke the record for the fastest Kentucky Derby. Secretariat was faster by 2/5 of a second but Sham’s time was also faster than the record. Although he is usually remembered as just the horse that ran against Secretariat Sham was one hell of a horse. He gave Secretariat a run for his money

He may have been a disappointment to some, but this beautiful horse had my heart.

Hyperion (18 April 1930 – 9 December 1960) was a British bred Thoroughbred, a dual classic winner and an outstanding sire. Owned by Edward Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, Hyperion won £29,509 during his career - a considerable sum at the time. His victories included the Epsom Derby and St. Leger Stakes. He was the most successful British-bred sire of the 20th century and six times champion sire of Great Britain between 1940 and 1954.[1]

John Henry (March 9, 1975 – October 8, 2007) was an American Thoroughbred race horse who had 39 wins, with $6,591,860 in earnings. He was twice voted the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year in 1981 and 1984, with his 1981 selection the only one in which the victor received all votes cast for that award. In all, he won seven Eclipse awards. John Henry was also listed as #23 - Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century.
