This sled was originally the property in 1760 of King William I (Netherlands & Belgium). It is decorated by a gilded sculpture of Diana, goddess of the hunt accompanied by her hunting dogs. The interior is trimmed in yellow and red velvet.
Dating from is a polychrome wood sculpture depicting a winged horse with fish tail and on the arc a man of the sea (the masculine form of siren.) The three symbolic of the earth and air and water are incorporated into this sled.
The state coach Britannia will be only the second carriage to join the Royal Family in the last 100 years which may one day transport Prince William and Prince Harry to their weddings The carriage is a gift for the Queen from Australia.
