Slavery is alive and well all over the world, and it is estimated that in  Mauritania, 10% to 20% of the population lives in slavery. This story offers some clues as to why slavery continues. We must not turn our backs on social injustice... Even if all we do is educate ourselves on the topic and share that knowledge with someone else, we begin to fight back. I don't know what to label this as but please read about the slavery that persists in Mauritania.  My students are doing a project to raise awareness and they were really moved.  Too bad we can't organize a "field trip" (desert trip?) to go and free the slaves.  Please share.
