Photo by @andywcoleman // Wai'anapanapa State Park and its beautiful Black Sand Beach are located just off the Hana Highway before you get to Hana. Maui is known for its sunsets, but this is one of those places where the sunrise can be just as spectacular. As Earth Day approaches, this is the perfect spot to think about the planet we live on - and how to preserve it. #NatGeoEarthDay

Photo by @hellokrisdavidson // Costumed revelers trudge through a flooded field during the Courier de Mardi Gras a 15-mile music and dance filled run through the rural bayou-land in Eunice Louisiana. With Cajun-French music playing in the distance courtesy of the live band being pulled by a tractor most of the town has joined the jovial procession moving down a remote dirt road. They are play-acting at begging a tradition rooted in the fête de la quémande ("feast of begging") of Medieval…

Photo: @melissafarlow/@thephotosociety | My childhood dreams were about horses. I used to run wild in the back yard pretending. Face to face with a yearling mustang was intense. He seemed tentative but curious enough to come for a closer look. I felt his breath on my face.

Thinking of visit Washington, D.C. this year? Consider planning your trip to coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms, which occurs at the end of March into early April. It's truly an incredible site to see the Tidal Basin ringed with varying shades of pinks and whites, especially at sunrise or sunset. I recommend getting up early to avoid the crowds! Tired of cold weather after Cuyahoga Valley National Park we headed as far south as we could in search of warmer climates and vivid color. We found both (and an amazing national park) on the border of Mexico in southwest Texas in Big Bend National Park. This is one of the great sunrise hikes we did there: grapevine hills trail to the precariously perched balanced rock. The show stopper is the sight pictured here a photogenic rock that has been balanced in this position for a millennia…

Even today it is still inhabited by monks of the Vallombrosian Order who remain the guardians of their cultural and historical treasures. Next door to the monastery is a hidden gem of a restaurant: the Osteria di Passignano owned by the famed Antinori family. I cant think of a better way to spend the afternoon drinking a…
