Bernini; S. Andrea Al Quirinale, 1658-70, Rome. "Bernini thought of the church of Saint Andrew's as one of his most perfect works. The whole movement of the oval interior seems to reach a climax in this energetic but ethereal figure."

ITALIAN BAROQUE ARCHITECTURE, Bernini; Ecstasy of St. Theresa, 1645-52, by Bernini. The erection of the baldacchino in St Peter's led to the creation of the Ecstasy of St. Theresa in the Cornaro family chapel at St Maria Della Vittoria in Rome. This sculptural blend of fantasy and reality, of real light, concealed light and imitation light, is one of the great works of the Baroque period.
