Antonello da Messina

Antonello da Messina, properly Antonello di Giovanni di Antonio (c. 1430 – February 1479), was an Italian painter from Messina, Sicily, active during the Italian Renaissance. His work shows strong influences from Early Netherlandish painting although there is no documentary evidence that he ever travelled beyond Italy. Giorgio Vasari mistakenly credited him with the introduction of oil-painting into Italy.

"... But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.... And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom" Luke 23: 40 - 42 (Artwork, Antonello da Messina)
