Rudolf Witzig (1916-2001) was a German Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper) during World War II and Oberst in the postwar Bundeswehr. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, coveted decorations in recognition of extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Witzig is most well-known for his action against the Belgian fortress Fort Eben-Emael at the start of the May 1940 invasion of the Low Countries.
