Annibale Bergonzoli served over 40 years and in 5 wars for Italy; he became a POW in North Africa 1941 and retired shortly after World War II ended. He was nicknamed "Barba Elettrica" (Electric Whiskers).
From 1942 to general Italo Gariboldi commanded the Italian Army in Russia (Armata Italiana in Russia, or ARMIR, or Italian Army). He was personally in command of the Italian troops destroyed in the Battle of Stalingrad after bloody fighting.
