Modica is a baroque town located in Val di Noto, in the south east of Sicily. In 2002 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Born in the Neolithic age, it was inhabited by the Sicilians, suceeded by the Greeks and the Romans. Afterwards the Bizantine domination came to end when the Arabs conquered the area in about 850 AD. With the arrival of the Normans, Modica became a centre of vital importance for the development of the area.
