Bauer and messer comp The bauerwehr sheath and the finished new farmer messer in it's scabbard with a by-knife. The scabbard is colored with vinegar and iron filings, then oiled heavily. Inside the leather is a wooden scabbard with both sheaths formed into it. After the scabbard is covered, the hole for the by-knife is carefully cut- then the area around the handle of the by-knife is moistened with water, and the knife is forced in. Once the leather dries, the by-knife is held in very firmly.
