In 1994, the Observer Newspaper in London ran a piece on the Psychiatric Hospital on the Greek Island of Leros. It was said to have been run by staff who were more like prison officers than care workers and the patients were housed in a building which had previously been used to jail political prisoners.  The hospital became known for taking the worst cases of psychiatric patients from the entire country. Inside the hospital you were said not to live, but to survive. Death came first from…
