Legendary Phar Lap died 80 years ago today - News - Horsetalk.co.nz
The most loved trio in Australian horseracing during the Depression. Champion racehorse, PHAR LAP, champion heavyweight jockey, Jim Pike, and the centre of Phar Lap's world....his adored strapper, Tommy Woodcock. Phar Lap would do nothing without Tommy there and Tommy tended to the every care of his beloved 'Bobby' from the day he arrived. When the horse hemorrhaged and died in his arms at Menlo Park in California, Tommy was inconsolable. The 5 April 2012 was 80 years since Phar Lap's death.
