With a bump & a whir, a TARDIS shows up in your living room & a little invitation slides out from under its door. Translated from French it reads "If you please. Tea at Giverny. Tomorrow. 3 pm." Dress, two pieces, ca. 1890. Gray silk taffeta bodice with collar & shoulder insets of flocked green silk. Collar, front, & cuffs have heavy cut steel decorations. Sixteen cut steel buttons fasten in front. Gray taffeta skirt with front inset with piece of green flocked silk. Remainder of skirt is gray taffeta with 4 rows of pinked frills at hem. 1887 cotton twill corset - really unusual, this corset is 'fully boned' like corsets leading up to the late 18th c. - in keeping with other corsets of it's period each boning channel is flossed at the top and bottom - but the profusion of boning channels creates an interesting effect with the flossing.
