Provincial (1920-2009) graduated in 1947 in Urbino and was appointed assistant Pasquale Rotondi professor of History of Art at the same university. In 1951, with the presentation of Giulio Carlo Argan, Walter Gropius and Marcello Venturi, he won a Fulbright scholarship that lead him to Chicago where he attended the Institute of Design (the school founded by László Moholy-Nagy in 1947 as New Bauhaus ).
