Surgeon Major Babtie carried Lord Roberts son into such shelter as there was - Cranston Fine Arts Aviation, Military and Naval Art
Surgeon Major Babtie carries Lieut. Freddie H.S. Roberts into such shelter as there was, after he tried to save the guns of the 14th & 66th Batteries, RFA when the detachments serving the guns had all become casualties or been driven from their guns. The Battle of Colenso was the 3rd & final battle during the Black Week of the Second Boer War, Dec. 15, 1899. Inadequate preparation & reconnaissance & uninspired leadership, led to a heavy & in some respects humiliating British defeat.
