Tar monster

Black Tamanous (Native American) - This black tarry ooze monster feasts on the act of cannibalism. They merge their bodies with sleeping creatures and then force their hosts to feast on their own kind. After the tamanous gets bored with its current host it will leave the body to search for a better one, leaving the previous host behind to rot away in a black pool of its own corrupted hunger, becoming a new Tamanous.

Concept for a tar creature; Wyvern.

A dragon design commission for a client over on DA! I was given pretty free reign, which was really nice! The first major pass at this was a lot less interesting, just a monster made of tar that happened to be dragon-shaped. I wasn't happy with it enough to move forward so I started looking at pictures of the La Brea Tarpits Museum (a place I've really wanted to visit!) and ended up with a new take to move forward with.

Today I was still in the mood to draw more of these fellas, I've got a few more coming later today/tomorrow, as I decided to just go for quick speedpaints with these so these were quite quick to make :) This one likely lurks around the ceilings of dungeons and caves, waiting around until something gets stuck in the tar pool below it.
