“In a time where waste is everywhere, I think that trying to find ways to use it and make something desirable out of it is a worthwhile thing to do,” says the London-based designer.

With a shape drawn from the sound waves created by the hummingbirds' wings nesting outside Shapiro's studio, the Flutter Lamp is meticulously handcrafted from California Stoneware. It integrates 30 extruded patterns, each scored, slipped, and assembled with precision, aided by laser guides. Following the bisque firing, a support structure within the center of the piece is carefully removed, unveiling the final form for glaze.
