This photograph shows the "Natural Pool" (Piscine Naturelle) on Ile des Pins. It is a small and shallow lagoon with crystal clear water. The lagoon is the home for several tropical species of fish, corals and shellfish. The lagoon is connected to the pacific ocean but surrounded by rocks. This leads to the impression that it lies in the interior of the island. The pine trees which gave the island its' name can be seen in the background.

Isle of Pines New Caledonia (Ile des Pins) is a 14km by 18km island in named by discoverer Captain James Cook in 1774 for the pine trees which cover it. It was my favourite stop on the Royal Caribbean cruise I took in November. #PacificTravel #CruiseTravel
