Primary Colors for our Mice

The art room echoed "Oh look, green!" and "I just made orange!" as first graders overlapped primary colors to make a background for their Mouse Paint mice. I used Ellen Stoll Walsh's Mouse Paint to reinforce the concept of primary and secondary colors. Students started with yellow cake tempera and painted about one third of their background, starting at the corner and brushing towards the center. Then, in true headfirst fashion, I immediately ordered an electric cardboard cutter, had all of the sweet lunch ladies save every pizza cardboard round every single Friday for weeks, and I cut out 300 paint palettes for all of my first graders between all three of my buildings 🙃😅🤦🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ But it was worth it and these cute Mouse Paint palettes were our end result 🐭🎨✨⁣ ⁣ Taking inspiration from the sweet color mixing book and adapting @cassie_stephenz model magic mice, each kiddo created a paint palette using watercolor and tempera paint, tissue paper to build up paint piles, mice from primary color model magic, and then dipped each mouse in the c Mouse Paint Art Project, Mouse Paint Art Lesson, Pizza Cardboard, Sweet Lunch, Mouse Paint, Paint Palettes, Model Magic, Tempera Paint, Sculpture Projects
