After enjoying Andy’s thread so much I thought I would try a thread on the 5 best looking or favorite electric locomotives. My 5 picks are as follows: 1. GG1 in Brunswick green and with 5 stripes is the best looking for all-time 2. P5a has similar character of a GG1 3. EP-5 Jet in the McGinnis paint scheme 4. The EM2 (later Class 77) electric was a legacy of the LNER's pre-war scheme to electrify the East Coast main line using a 1500V DC overhead supply. War got in the way and, when British Railways dusted down the plans, DC traction was already on its way out in favour of a 25 KV AC supply. Only one main line scheme was completed to the old standard, the trans-pennine route from Manchester to Sheffield and Wath.
