At the age of five, Martin Luther King Jr. began school at Yonge Street Elementary School in Atlanta. Following his education at Yonge Street Elementary School, he attended David T. Howard Elementary School. He also attended the Atlanta University Laboratory School and Booker T. Washington High School. He scored so high on his college entrance exam at Booker High School that he did not formally finish high school, he went on to college in his junior year of high school.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we join in recognizing the contributions of a visionary leader. His dedication to equality and justice serves as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to build a society that values everyone. 🕊️

He was marching in a circuitous route around a section of city blocks. People lined up on both sides; some cheering them on, many angry and threatening. As he peacefully walked, one woman stepped up to him and spit in his face. I will never forget his response. He paused and said, “You are too lovely a person to do something like that,” and went on. When he returned to that same place, the woman stepped forward again. And apologized. That, to me, is the essence of Dr. Martin Luther King.
