An adoptee begins life with our stories being told for us, and this continues until we finally find the courage to tell our own. We are then told it’s hurtful or insensitive. Adoptive parents are often so joyful about adoption they forget whose story they’re telling. It’s not theirs to tell, and it’s quite possible their child doesn’t share the same perspective. We are the adult voices of your children, and when they start talking honestly it probably won’t be what you want to hear.
