Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - why do people hate chainguards? - They keep things from catching in your chain. I've noticed that when building a conversion, lots of folks cut them off (integrated chainguard on the chainwheel) or just unscrew them. why? does anybody besides me like them?

The left side crank arm is a typical cotter type. While the drive side arm, chain-ring and bracket spline are all one unit. Hello and Welcome, For the past month or so the weather here has been pretty brutal. I have been doing some of my bike work in the basement.
