Brazilian soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (BEF) are photographed at the Battle of Monte Cassino during the Italian Campaign. 25,700 Brazilian men and women arranged by the Army and Air Force fought alongside the Allied forces in the Mediterranean Theater. Brazil was the only independent South American country to send troops to fight in the war.

Sadly, he was killed at Monte Cassino, May 12 1944 and lies at the Cassino War Cemetery, Cassion in the Province of Frosinone, 139 kms from Rome.
