Fornasetti can turn classical art into an unusual and contemporary imaginary. The dialogue between ancient and contemporary has involved Fornasetti on several fronts in recent years, from the area of cultural initiatives - with the exhibitions hosted at the Museo Nazionale Romano Palazzo Altemps, where imagery and products of the Atelier dialogue with the works and architecture of the museums.
Archive drawings are brought back to life to enrich the new plates in the Tema & Variazioni collector’s series. The production process for every one of the Fornasetti Atelier's creations is faithfully bound to age-old, Italian, artisanal techniques, based on the importance of making by hand and "slow working", which ensure the quality and uniqueness of each object.
Fornasetti and Cole&Son wallpaper depicts a beautifully rendered cloudy sky effect, shown in dramatic black and white. The sky was long a recurring vision for Fornasetti, and these full blown clouds with metallic hints that float from side to side now completely cover one of Fornasetti Milan store’s room during Design Week 2021. These ‘Nuvolette’ are delicately detailed etchings of tempestuous, rolling skies.

The plates now take on a new life as decorative elements, making each piece a one-off. "A good hand" refers to both the player who demonstrates their skill by making the right moves at the card table, but also that of the craftsperson who makes the world of the imagination tangible by translating it into objects.
The Fornasetti Archives bring two special projects back to life: plates that were originally used for a screen belonging to Frank Sinatra, and others used for a set designed by Piero for Macy's in 1950.
