“Doubtful it stood, As two spent swimmers that do cling together And choke their art." Here we see that the situation at the war is almost hopeless. This is seen in the metaphor that the injured soldier uses where he talks about the war being like it would for two tired swimmers who are clinging to each other. Through this quote, we are able to see that the soldiers are in a desperate situation and those who leave alive are lucky. (A1S2L7)
