A pair of Italian 'Grand Tour' rosso antico obelisks, 19th century one being a reduction of the Obelisco Lateranense in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, transferred to Rome by the Emperor Constanzo and re-erected by Pope Sistus V in 1588; the other of the Obelisco Flaminio in Piazza del Popolo, the second oldest obelisk after the Lateransensis, transferred to Rome by Emperor Augustus, and re-erected by Pope Sixtus in 1589. each 96cm. high; 3ft. 1¾in.
