THEODORE GÉRICAULT (1791-1824) – Key figure in romanticism, revolutionary in his life and works despite his bourgeois origins. In his masterpiece, "The raft of the Medusa", Gericault creates a painting that we can define as "politically incorrect", as it depicts the miseries of a large group of castaways abandoned after the shipwreck of a French naval frigate.
