Augustine of Hippo (Latin: Aurelius Augustinus Hipponensis; November 13, 354 – August 28, 430), also known as Augustine, St. Augustine, St. Austin, St. Augoustinos, Blessed Augustine, or St. Augustine the Blessed, was Bishop of Hippo Regius. He was a Latin philosopher and theologian from Roman Africa.

The Light and The Courage

Augustine was a Latin philosopher and theologian from Roman Africa. His writings were very influential in the development of Western Christianity.

After accepting Christianity, he was then baptized by Ambrose in 387. He returned to Africa from Milan in 388 where he soon gave away all of his property except the family estate, which he turned into a monastic foundation. From there, in just 7 years, he becomes a priest, then a Bishop of Hippo; a position he retained till his death in 430.
