Cleaning Stinky Towels The Better Way Add your normal soap, then put in about 1/4 cup of Lysol (Not Lysol with bleach) I use the lavender scent...it smells great! Run the cycle on the hottest setting and then dry without a dryer sheet. I am so much happier using this method! I like knowing that 99% of the stinky germs have been killed when I wash my towels this way. I think it prevents the gross stuff from ever growing and eliminates ever having stinky towels again. Hurray!
Clean Towels . . . works great . . . found another suggestion to add 2 tsps dawn dishwashing liquid to vinegar load. Doesn't seem necessary, but good to know. Be aware - dryer sheets build up residue on towels over time.
Over time, towels build up detergent and fabric softener, leaving them unable to absorb as much water and smelly. Recharge them by washing them once with hot water and 1cup vinegar, then a 2nd time with hot water and half cup baking soda. This strips the residue and leaves them fresh and able to absorb more water again. Works like a charm!
