Homemade fly/wasp/yellow jacket trap. I made several of these last summer around the chicken area. Worked very well. Simply throw away when full. Avoid sweet bait if you don't want to accidentally trap honey bees. Meat will get more wasps and yellow jackets, rotten stuff will get hornets and flies.

Bee safe wasp trap. How to make your own wasp trap for free

Safe wasp trap. A mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt. The wasps are attracted to the sweet and sour scent yet bees don’t seem to be attracted by this sour mixture whereas a honey mix would be a fatal attractant.

Wasp/hornet trap: a mason jar and a funnel. Put watered down orange juice in the jar. The wasps/hornets are attracted to the fruit juice so they'll go down the funnel but won't be able to find their way out and eventually drown. Pet and kid safe.

Take a gallon milk jug and cut an upside down V shape in the side 2/3 way up on the jug. Press the tab in. Pour fruit juice 1 inch deep into the jug. Put the cap back on the jug and hang. Insects enter through the hole and can't get out.
