Tentino Alto Adige - Italy 🇮🇹
In the heart of the Italian Alps emerges a silent witness to the past:
the Romanesque bell tower of the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, built in 1357, which rises from the crystal clear waters of Lake Resia as if it were straight out of a fantastic tale. This remarkable monument is all that remains of the ancient village of Curon Venosta, submerged in 1950 to build a dam. The bell tower, resisting explosions during the demolition, remained as the sole custodian of the memory of the old historic centre. During winter, when the lake freezes, the bell tower becomes even more evocative, surrounded by a white landscape that makes it look like a surreal painting. A place where history survives, defying time and waters, reminding us that some stories cannot be submerged.
