Fabric covered cork board with nail head trim. Made 2 of these for Christmas, my only problem was the nail head trim I used was too long and the nails poke through the back of the board. Other than that they turned out super cute!

Elmer's Glue on Canvas, then paint the whole thing. I have totally done this, but with a hot glue gun. Elmer's Glue seems to be a better idea since hot glue leaves behind strings and is harder to work with.
Dont want to use chalkboard paint for the whole door? Michaels sells rolls of chalkboard stick-on paper, perfect for pantry door! Stick on the inside for "Grocery list" when kids eat last of something.
