Maya Māori
Without doubt Polynesians visited the American continent at least once in pre-Colombian times, but how far did their influence reach? From the Mapuche in the south to perhaps the Maya in Mesoamerica? Did Hawai'ians contact cultures in the northwest, such as the Haida?
Captive of the Mochica 2
In this rendition, I made the face on the ceramic featuring a captive of the Moche (or Mochica) people to resemble a red-haired individual as Thor Heyerdahl wrote about in his book, “American Indians in the Pacific”.
Chachapoya Cloud Warrior
The Chachapoyas (sometimes translated as “cloud warriors”) were reputed to be formidable in their resistance to both Inca and Spanish rule. Rumoured to be a race apart from other Andean peoples, a recent study has suggested that there may be truth to that tale. It was found that Chachapoya people were historically heterogeneous and that a European element was more prevalent than expected. Whether this was derived from Spaniards or an influence much more ancient requires further research.
