Charlie Parker, aka ""Bird" & "Yardbird", jazz saxophonist & composer. He was a highly influential jazz soloist, a leading figure in the development of bebop, & an introducer of revolutionary harmonic ideas. As an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, her personified the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist & intellectual, rather than an entertainer. Miles Davis once said, "You can tell the history of jazz in four words: Louis Armstrong. Charlie Parker." R.I.P.
