Designer: Madame Grès Date: fall/winter 1954–55 Culture: French Medium: silk Accession Number: C.I.56.60.6a, b This dress from Madame Gres is very reminiscent of the chitons that they used to wear in ancient Greek. However, it is given a “modern” update with the asymmetrical silhouette and beautiful pleats that run throughout the body. Furthermore, a gold lame ribbon juxtaposes the diagonal pleats of the torso with the straight pleats of the skirt.
