Madame Allouard-Jouan , John Singer Sargent.  Ms. Jouan ( 1836-1918) was well aquainted to art and politics, but worked as a translator.  She wrote works of fiction under the pseudonym Emile Jouan  Rolland.  Among Sargent's inner circle in Paris, he inscribed this painting as " a testament of friendship ".
