Santa Maria in Trastevere, interior, nave showing basilica form, carved and gilded coffered wooden ceiling (by Domenichino in 1617), and apse with mosaic by Pietro Cavallini, 1291, showing the Coronation of the Virgin. The Ionic columns separating nave and side aisles are ancient Roman, from the Baths of Caracalla. Daylight streams through the clerestory windows. A couple sit on one of the benches contemplating the beautiful space. Photograph made using available mixed light.
