As a worthy successor to Juan Luna, Felix Resureccion Hidalgo and Fabian de la Rosa, Amorsolo (1892-1972) portrayed women as no other painter did in his time. Having played a dominant role in the arts of his generation before the war and after it, Amorsolo has left an indelible mark on the artistic consciousness of the Philippine Republic.
