Inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). He would have been known to history as just Alexander Bell but, highly jealous of his brothers’ middle names, he asked for & received one for his 11th birthday. His interest in acoustics developed through his childhood experiences with his deaf mother, influencing his later work with the deaf and in experimentation with sound.
